David Frankel has sundanced for 8 years at the Wild Horse Sanctuary in the Black Hills with the American Horse/Afraid of Bear Tiospaye; several of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers were present including Rita Long Visitor Holy Dance (Afraid of Bear) and Beatrice Long Visitor Holy Dance (Weasel Bear) who calls my son "grandson". The Grandmothers asked for help to protect and clean the water - wherever we can. Everywhere they go, they see the water protected - it is our first medicine.
This year we received notice that profiteering speculators want to do URANIUM DRILLING ON OUR SACRED LANDS AND WATER. This Uranium Mining is proven to cause cancer and birth defects. There is a corrupt plan in place to drill Uranium in the Black Hills and Badlands on top of the largest aquifer in the Western Hemisphere - the Oglalla Aquifer - which would lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths from radiation and toxic poisoning. THE CHEYENNE RIVER, WHITE RIVER AND MISSOURI RIVER ARE ALL RADIOACTIVE. DO NOT ASSUME THAT SPRINGS AND RIVERS THAT ARE DOWNSTREAM FROM MINING ARE SAFE - THEY MAY NOT BE SAFE.
There are thousands of abandoned radioactive sites and they have never been cleaned up. Speculators want to drill thousands more radioactive sites. Everyone must know about this. This is the challenge of our lives. We know that this activity causes birth defects and cancer. If we don't stop it, we are the ones responsible to future generations for their suffering. Please do something.
