Electronic Music Creation, Part I

with Epsylon


This workshop is the first in a three-part introductory series covering the basics of music production with computer software and MIDI hardware. Topics discussed and demonstrated in this workshop include an overview of available tools, digital audio terminology, harmonics, and arranging. The workshop will also feature a demonstration of the reacTIVision tangible music interface, where audience participation is highly encouraged. The workshop will be concluded with a brief question and answer period.


BIOGRAPHY: Brennan Murphey (a.k.a. Epsylon) has been obsessed with making strange noises with synthesizers since 1994. He has since then produced 42 compositions ranging widely in style from hip-hop to psytrance. He is a Berklee College of Music B.E.S.T. Guitar ScholarshipLaureate, founder of Metakinetics, certified Teacher in the Rocky Mountain Mystery School, licensed college professor in the State of Oregon, and organizer of many events including Portland's psytrance monthly "Sacred Space" and the Contact Festival. He can be found twiddling knobs in his basement studio, teaching music production at Spun Academy in downtown Portland, or on stage across the west coast.
